solidarity is not:
- speaking over black folks at rallies
- centering your cause in a discussion about black lives…
- …esp by appropriating the “black lives matter” campaign
- making black folks explain things to you
- or centering your feelings
- making distinctions between “good” and “bad” blacks/protestors
- telling us about your racist friends
- policing black anger/sadness/frustration
solidarity is:
- supporting and amplifying black folks’ work
- especially if you are able to do so with your financial resources
- actively and continually tackling anti-blackness in your own communities so black folks don’t have to (because we don’t have the power there that you do)
- continually reflecting on your own anti-blackness as an individual
- leveraging your connections and non-financial resources to support black work
- etc etc etc because there is so much more beyond showing up to rallies
